God’s Sense of Humor, My Bottle of Dramamine,Vacation is a 4 letter Word!
Thursday September 9th will go down in our history as one of the largest Emotional Roller-Coaster days we’ve had in this whole Adoption Story! Due to the length of time this whole process has taken many things on the USA side of things have expired: one of those being our Biometric Fingerprints! It was suggested we go first thing in the morning to the office in Portland and beg for their mercy to see us without an appointment! (something the workers at the Fingerprinting office really DO NOT like!) So, we left home at 6:00 AM and headed to Portland. The news we got when we arrived was “we are booked solid today, but you can come back at 2:30 and we will try and squeeze you in” 
Next we head to meet with Baby M’s bio-family to celebrate his bio-Dad’s birthday. That is always a time of many emotions, but we are still amazed at the relationship God has given us with them! (Best quote of the day from this visit comes from the bio-Mom who looks at Jim and I and says:”man, you guys both really look tired today!” hahahaha) From there we rush over to Baby M’s GI Doctor’s appt. He has been having some serious “issues” and while at the appt the Dr decides he needs to have a procedure to make sure everything on the inside where his G-tube is placed is “doing ok.” They offer us 2 possible dates: the 19th and the 26th and I in faith tell them “we will be out of the country on the 19th!” So they schedule the 26th even though they really did not want to wait that long.
We head back out to the car and realize that the Dr. appt had taken so long it is now almost time to get back over to the Fingerprinting bldg! Quickly Jim gives Baby M his tube feeding and I check my texts where I see these words: “have you read your emails?? The JUDGE IS BACK you can come to Haiti!” Letting 0ut a HUGE scream that makes Baby M laugh and laugh I tell Jim and quickly read our email to see that YES the judge is back and we can go to Haiti the day we planned in faith 3 weeks ago---this Sunday Sept 11th! Frantically we call the travel agent to make sure the tickets are still available!!! Of course, he does not answer! We send an email and tell the travel agent “Buy the tickets!!” And I totally believe at this point they are going to absolutely be able to do our fingerprints and this means we are going to see our baby girl in 72 hours!
We make it downtown Portland with a little time to spare and Jim and Baby M both try and nap for a few minutes when I get yet another text:”Wait, don’t book your tickets! Just found out another person you need to see while in Haiti is…….you guessed it! ON VACATION and will not be back till Sept 28th!” Are you kidding me?! Come on now God, this was all falling into place! We call the Travel Agent AGAIN and another person answers the phone and tells us our agent is……Yep,you guessed it~ ON VACATION for the next 10 days! And, because of that, he did not get our flurry of emails or voice messages, so the tickets were NOT booked~phew! Now time to get in and see if they can really “squeeze us in” for those fingerprints. When we walk in the woman who is normally at the desk is on the chairs with her legs stretched out and her eyes closed, and there is nobody in the waiting room at all!!!! Think they “might” just be able to squeeze us in! My phone rings while we are checking in and the Dr’s office tells me they would really like to do the procedure on the 19th and I tell them “hmmm,look like we will be in town after all.” (this is for sure a “God thing” for this to get taken care of before we are out of the country and should make it so much better for My Mom who will be caring for Baby M while we are gone!) It took all of 30 minutes o do out Prints and we were done!  Due to the now delay in our getting to Haiti our new Fingerprints should have time to be approved before we get there---another sign from the Father that HIS timing is just right!
When we get back to the car I see I have another text: “Hey if you are in Portland we could meet somewhere and I have money to give you for your plane ticket for court!” So, we quickly arrange to meet with our friend and before we even meet her she has texts again saying:”is anyone giving you a Baby Shower for Lovely, cuz I wanna host one!” A Baby Shower?? What? I had not even had the emotional time or energy to conceive of such a thing and within a few minutes we were at Babies-R-Us with our friend who was gleefully choosing matching things for Lovely and Micah and making Baby Shower plans, after shoving cash into my hands for my plane ticket and telling me to not bother looking at the car seats cuz she already had one for us! Car Seat? Oh my, another thing I had not even let myself think of and yet here we were in the blink of an eye almost ready to NEED one! I gotta tell ya, I wasn’t really thinking clearly by this time! 
So, we make it home that evening and in our inb0x is yet another email with a new itinerary for our trip but the price has NOT come down at all from the traveling with only 3 days notice! Since our travel agent is on vacation the person filling in for him has not looked to see if she can find a better deal since we now have 2 weeks before we travel, but since we want to make SURE and have the seats reserved we press “go ahead and book tickets” and We fall into bed completely exhausted ! We say a prayer of thanks and lay there in a state of shock of all that has happened the last 48 hours!
The next day, the Sub travel agent calls Jim then emails me and tells us she just did notfeel comfortable booking the tickets and decided to re-work the dates……after re-working the dates she has managed to get the new tickets at a savings of $300.00 for each of our tickets!!! Bringing the total per ticket with taxes and fees to $799.00 a piece! Just this week on Tuesday a check had come in the mail for one of our tickets for…….$800.00!!!! Leaving us 1 dollar more then we needed for the ticket!
Do you see how God is confirming in EVERY way that HE is in charge, that HIS timing is perfect, that HE knows what is best?! So, now Jim still gets a week of vacation that started today!!! Wooohooo for some rest! And, we now fly out Sept 25th and the Father has blessed us with a whole entire week together with Lovely! Compared to the just more then 24 hrs each of us have spent with her a year ago this is just PRICELESS!!!! We are holding on tight and so very aware of WHO IS REALLY IN CHARGE in this whole story!!!! Can’t wait to tell you the “rest of the story!”
